Saturday, August 13th Grandma Mary and Grandpa Eric flew in in the morning. We planned to head to the beach that afternoon as that was the top thing on Mary and Eric's to do list. We headed to Coronado base and Breaker's beach for the afternoon. There was lots of boogey boarding happening and playing in the sand and just relaxing and eating some snacks. It was a gorgeous day with a great breeze.
The next day we headed downtown to see the USS Midway. I could have spent all day here but the girls were less than impressed. I mean really? How can you not be impressed by the size of these carriers. I think it is kind of fun to see a similar area to where Hans works most days when on project like he is now. We listened to part of the tour but then found it hard to listen all separately so gave up on that. We watched a video and walked around part of the berthing quarters, as well as where the anchor is (now that is impressive!). We then got back to the hangar bay and then headed up to the flight deck.

The kids were getting hungry so we headed off the ship and had lunch in the grass near by. After lunch we headed to the water park near by.

Playing at the park. We had a bit of a parking fight/problem. So we only stayed for a short time and then decided to head back to our place to play in the pool.

Monday, Hans was working so I took Mary and Eric over to Balboa Park in the morning. I hadn't spent much time here (it is right next to the zoo), but it is beautiful! The architecture and beautiful buildings were really fun. It was pretty hot though! We walked around and saw the buildings, the lily ponds, and gardens. It was very, very beautiful!

After some shopping at Target we headed back to our place for some more pool time and relaxing in the sun!
And because I promised Raelyn that we would go to the park while we were at Balboa earlier in the day we had to head over to the nearby park to play for a bit. It was a beautiful night to be out!
On Tuesday, we headed to Coronado to walk the downtown area. We did a little shopping, walked through the famous Hotel del Coronado, and then headed to lunch at Panera. We stopped for ice cream and some groceries at Costco on the way back and then it was time for some more pool time!
Wednesday was Mary's birthday so we decided to go to La Jolla to see the sea lions again and then off to the beach. The sea lions are always way cool. We had a nice lunch in the park and then we checked out the sea lions and got our feet in the water.
And then we headed over to the La Jolla beach to play in the waves, sand and relax a bit.
For dinner we had ribs, potatoes, corn on the cob, and veggies. It was super good and left over ice cream cake for Grandma's birthday dinner.
Thursday, we headed to the Creation Museum for a little bit. Once again I could have spent most of the day here, but the girls were less than impressed with most of it. Mostly because there was too much reading! Ha! It was not a large museum but had lots of information. A really cool place. There was also a video but we missed the beginning of that so didn't get to watch it. I don't know if we will be able to make it back out there, but I am hoping maybe we will!
Friday, Hans took off again so we headed to Mission Beach for the day. We first went mini golfing at the Tiki Village. The girls had fun although it was a bit slow as we had a ton of people in front of us. But it was a fun course and there were even a few hole's in one.
Then it was off to the beach for the best waves of the week. They had a blast playing in the waves and sand once again.
Saturday we went on a harbor cruise. It was a gorgeous day and we had some beautiful views. We also learned a lot. Once again the girls did not love this, but they had fun overall.

Tired girls! After 2 full weeks of grandparents visiting and the Olympics these girls were pooped.
Sunday was the last full day that Mary and Eric were in town and we had free tickets (from a friend) to the Padres game. We headed on the trolley downtown for the game. As always the girls love riding the trolley! It was kids day at the park so there were some extra fun things to do. It helped to keep the girls entertained. They did start to lose patience part way in, but the game was fun and the Padres won!
Monday morning the power was out which was kind of weird, but fortunately it was not off long. I got to run to Costco on my own while the kids played with the grandparents in the pool. Then we took Grandma and Grandpa to the airport. The end of a fun trip!
Next day it was time to start school! Yep...summer flew by!! Up next...starting school!
